Editing tools
Draw, edit, and manage layers directly on your property map.
If you need to update or adjust the SiteRecon output, you can use the Editing Tools to take control of your property data. These tools allow you to draw, modify, cut, or delete individual elements within a feature layer.
Let’s explore how these tools work across different geometry types—Area, Line, and Point features.
Note: Editing tools are available only after a property has been approved.
1. Activating Edit Mode
You’ll need Editing Tools when updating map data after site visits, creating new features in an empty layer, or building complete measurements manually.
To begin:
-
Click the Edit button.
-
Select the layer you want to edit from the dropdown menu.
Note: You can only edit one layer at a time.
Once edits are made and saved, changes are immediately reflected on the map and in the corresponding measurements.
Note: You cannot make edits in the Base View (SiteRecon Data). If you need to make changes, create a duplicate view and edit within that version.
2. Creating "Views" in property
Views allow you to create updated or customized versions of your SiteRecon property data. They’re useful for tailoring maps for different audiences—such as internal teams, subcontractors, or prospects—without altering the original SiteRecon output.
Step-by-Step Instructions: Creating a New View
- Go to the Views section on the property page.
- Give your view a relevant name.
- Choose the type of view you want to create.
- Select the existing view you’d like to copy data from (via dropdown).
Note: You cannot edit the Base View (SiteRecon Data) directly. To make changes, always create and work within a new view.

3. Add Layer
You may need to add a new layer after a property has been approved—whether for capturing additional features or customizing your view.
To begin, click the Add Layer button.
Steps to Add a Layer:
- Select the layer you want to add from the feature library.
- Click Add Layer to insert an empty layer into your current view.
- Use the Editing Tools to begin drawing directly on this layer.
4. Draw tool
Drawing polygon in a feature is simple—
-
Click on the Draw tool.
-
Click on the map to place the first vertex of your polygon.
-
Continue clicking to add additional vertices as needed.
-
You can snap the pointer to align with the edge or vertex of the same or a different feature.
-
However, overlapping within the same feature layer is not allowed.
-
Complete the shape by either:
- Clicking back on the starting point, or
- Double-clicking anywhere to finish.
-
Click Done to save your changes.

5. Modify tool
Use the Modify Tool to adjust the shape of an existing polygon in a feature layer.
Steps to Modify a Polygon:
-
Click on the Modify tool.
-
Drag existing vertices to adjust their position.
-
To add a new vertex, click on any polygon edge and drag—it will split the edge at that point. Then, move the new vertex to reshape the polygon.
-
Use the Snapping feature to align with other features or create precise boundaries.
-
Once edits are complete, click Done to save your changes.

6. Cut tool
Use the Cut Tool to remove unwanted sections from an existing polygon.
Steps to Use the Cut Tool:
-
Click on the Cut tool.
-
Draw a cut polygon over the area you want to remove.
-
You can:
- Enclose the entire feature to delete it completely.
- Cut out extensions or protruding parts by drawing around them.
- Create a doughnut shape by cutting a hole inside the polygon.
-
Use the Snapping Tool for cleaner, more accurate cuts.
-
Once satisfied, click Done to apply and save the changes.
7. Delete feature elements
Use the Delete Tool when you need to remove incorrectly created features or reduce the number of elements within a view.
How to Delete Elements:
- Click the Delete button.
- Select the feature elements you want to remove from the layer.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted (if applicable).
Use this tool to clean up your view and ensure only relevant data remains.
