# How to add a new feature layer?
## Add standard or custom layers to enhance property views and capture additional site details
#### **SiteRecon Features**
Once you've approved a property, you may need to add a new layer to enhance your project. This is a common step when updating or customizing your SiteRecon map.
**To add a standard feature layer:**
1. Click the **+** button.
2. Select the desired feature from the **SiteRecon feature library**.
3. Click **Add Layer** to insert an empty layer into the current view. You can begin drawing on this layer using the **Editing Tools**.
#### **Custom Features**
To add a custom feature layer, follow these steps:
1. Click the **+** button.
2. Choose an existing feature from your organization’s feature set, or click **+ Create Custom Layer** to define a new one.
When creating a custom layer, you’ll be prompted to enter:
- **Name** of the feature
- **Type** (e.g., Polygon)
- **Category** (e.g., Hardscape or Softscape)
- **Symbol and color** preferences for easy identification
You can also choose to apply the custom layer at either the organization level or the user level by toggling the Workspace-wide Layer option.
